Who's TonNet

If you are a regular at Education & Tech, you shall remember that I'd written a post almost everyday since 2003 and before, it even had different names such as Blog For Spanish Readers, BPLE, and so. You'd find posts in Spanish because that's how this blog started. Education & Tech covers tender questions of human living and rougher matters rotting the educators core.

IE8 Beta 2 and Firefox Add-on You All Must Have

We here at education & tech love Firefox and of you happen to be using IE still will notice some strange behaviour in displaying our pages. However, people from Microsoft had said, "While Beta 1 was for developers, we think that anyone who browses or works on the web will enjoy IE8 Beta 2. We haven't downloaded it yet but it's matter of time. Try it out!

And speaking of browsers, did you know that Firefox allows you to play videos from your favorite video sites such as YouTube, DailyMotion, MetaCafe, MySpace right from within your Firefox sidebar? There is an add-on that you can download here. This is a must-have Firefox add-on.

Please, share with us what else is going on apart of BackType in the OpenSocial lab!

Update:

Listen CNET Review of IE8

Surprise, surprise... IE8 will not trigger standards-compliant mode by default :(

Blogger in Draft: New Features Explained

Internet has changed and keep things changing every day. Five years now, I had the opportunity to meet young interesting people worldwide, thanks to the hacks it was possible to introduce to the old Blogspot platform.

All of these talented guys had stop working on the new Blogger platform, although they still keep blogging on particular issues developed by Google people and its Blogger in draft fancy project.

Some remain giving out advice on how to teak Blogspot templates. We used to collect all templates we thought deserved special attention. Lately, however we've also give it a stop. The reason, there are lots of templates out there where you can pick and start running your own blog almost immediately. Great bloggers provide this missed assistance nowadays: BlogU , Beautiful Beta and Bloggerbuster.

It's hard to explain in a single post, all three new features offered since last week in Blogger in Draft, at least we can begin with the explanations from Flisha Fernandez, who's currently finishing her last year of Masters in Computer Science at the Ateneo de Manila University. Random Detoxification is her blog and she's worked out one of the features we've talking about here. How to embed a Comment Box in Blogger.

Head over her blog to learn how to deal with it. Be aware, though, this how-to works only with Blogger in Draft enabled, " If, however, you downloaded a customized Blogger template from another site or made your own changes to the template, doing this won't work", she explains.

What are the blogs you've found useful in order to built your blog on Blogger?

eBlogTemplates Wants To Convert Wordpress Themes

This is our gratitude for the person who's made this blog not only look nice but very professional (not money down). eBlogTemplates is holding a contest from now until March 16th, 2008. As the post says, all bloggers are in call just make sure your Wordpress selection are under Open Source and it is a in a blog-style format.

After finding what you think is the winning template, paste the template name and url where it can be demoed and downloaded from in the comments box below. Make sure there’s not already the same template suggested otherwise the person who first submitted it will only be considered. If you’ve designed your own template feel free to suggest it as well. Just make sure it’s really cool and high quality otherwise it might be removed from the list

So, join in David W Cowhill and help him help others to get a nice Wordpress theme converted into Blogger code. We have plenty of time to participate and choose among those thousands of nice looking Wordpress designs.

RSS Footer Options for Blogspot Blogs

I've reading a post related to RSS optimization written by Joost de Valk and himself already has created a scrapper for WP blogs. I don't know yet about this plug in for Blogspot hosted blogs but I obviously think will be great to have it.

Patrick Altoft, explains what are the problems with scrappers and why we should have one in our blogs in order to make sure search engines know the source of the post and guide your readers to find an extra place to click to visit your site.

...Having internal links within the post as well as maybe a link to your homepage in your feed footer isn’t going to be the best solution. What you really need is a link to your blog post from within the feed content. Obviously your feed will already have a link to your post anyway but most scrapers tend to remove those links and just keep the title and the content.

Is anyone from Blogger Draft reading our blog?

Blogger Still Has Some Miles to Hit the Road

I don't like to yell nobody just to be heard or use Gmail with emoticons/smileys just to look kool as many of you will be thinking. This post pretend to show you some issues still Blogger has to work on.

Error Performing Your Request bX-vjhbsj. Is one of the most typical issues TonNet has to face once in while trying to republish a post or editing the template.

Once you cache get to know what language are you using to blog, Blogger neglects to switch a different one, something so obvious that shouldn't need a drop down box!

If you already had bought a domain through Blogger you must be happy whether all the process of redirection is working but if you tried *.mil as an option then you might get into trouble.

Surely you are using Firefox (if not is time to get it) and even when this browser works beautifully we still have some tricks to learn, have you ever tried a faster way to type Internet addresses? Go and grab it!

Have a wonderful beginning of week!

IMfied: Posting from IM to Web

Thanks to our dear friend Avatar we've got to know this new tool for publishing online, IMfied. Still in Beta but certanly it "is a productivity tool that offers instant access to a growing number of web applications over your instant messaging client. Imified simply helps you get things done faster", according to Dave & Anthony, their dvelopers.

I you check their forum you will notice they ( the community) is working real quick to provide integration with other application like Facebook, Powce and the New Blogger itself.

The process of registration is very easy but you will need to have an account i any of the mayor IM providers, add imfied as a friend and ther you go. I just made it. Quick and easy. I haven't tried though, but I do believe what Avatar is saying about this application. Imagine all people who use IM now with chances to publish their blogs without even sign out of IM clients! Is this productivity? I don't know but as for me it really sounds interesting. Let's see what happens in the days to come.

Buy Me A Beer Plugin For Blogger

I am still struggling to stop the automated post in this blog, problem caused by genuine advice from some marketing ad. Does anyone already know how to deal with this plague? I've already change the email address for email posting but it seems it didn't work.

Until we find the solution to this Blogger scam I would like to thank Julianto Cahyadi for the Coke Idea. This comes just in hand to introduce to you a Wordpress hack very well know now as Buy me a beer! In this case, the hack is made for Blogger and Etienne Teo same as Amey Jah had posted about how to install such plugin in Blogspot.

By the way, please if you're a regular reader of our blog you shouldn't miss the chance to read one the most prominet bloggers, Sumesh. He's working hard to improve the quality of information in his blog and had prepared a very good post about the Greasemonkey Scripts for Gmail. Go visit him and say hi from TonNet.

Not Server Found -Error 404

I was trying to change my lay out that I've got, thanks to Diddy, and suddenly this scary message showed up. My blog still is in Blogspot but what it seems to happen is something went wrong with Godaddy, the host. If for some reason you are lucky to read this post, I will gladly appreciate any input. I can't be holding all day for my blog, but I will be back very soon!

I am not using anymore the GoDady hosted address, it seems that something went wrong while trying to move up from this blog and follow our friend's recomendation, BB. Now, check out the message I am getting from the old blog.miltonramirez.com and the suppostedly look out I've got when switching to www.miltonramirez.com. Obviously, I must made a mistake.

Anybody able to help me out on this one? I will pay 10 linkbacks for such a great service. What about it? And if it is free, God will throw you many blessing on yourself!

Technorati: , ,

Another blog is already hosted in this address!

If you're like TonNet who had to spend many hours trying to understand how the hosting thingy worked in Blogger, then this is your lucky day (for those slow minded people as myself, though). Wolo.es[ES] just past me the solution that I would like to share with you. From now on you will see a new address in this blog: http://blog.miltonramirez.com. You don't have to do nothing because Google itself will redirect everything from our old address.

Google Apps and Blogger use the same ghs.google.com. So what happen is Blogger sees another file hosted in Google Apps and produces an error as the 'title of this post'. What we should do? Wolo explains: Simply, go to www.google.com/a/, sign in if necessary, input your domain and disable web pages (later you will enable back with another address) or change the web address (now is blog.miltonramirez.com
-our case-) for whateveryouwant.miltonramirez.com or the second by default http://www.miltonramirez.com-a.googlepages.com (my case)

Await around 5 to 10 minutes until all changes have taken place (this is the time for me) and voilá you can start using your new domain.

Blogger: Things I Haven't Written in a While

I am being a little bit lazy in about the tech title of this blog I've concentrated in educational and social matters but today I've decided to move a little to the new Blogger which has been buzzing lately not only because of its final changes but also the authorities in this field.

One of my favorites is always Beautiful Beta. In this occasion for those following his work, shows how to display more than 100 posts (an update to this tweak) But not only that, Hans has created a Wiki where he compiles all his experiences, tips and tricks about Blogger.

Freshblog is not updating so frequently as before but the last week he wrote a long update about the presentation and use of Yahoo pipes in sidebar of your blogs. If you check his blogroll you will find a neat organization of those links and of course much information related to blogtech and webtech.

Once in the top list of my readings (today is he's not posting steadily, PurpleMoggy has developed a calendar widget which looks interesting if you like to browse your archives through a calendar of if you were thinking to switch to Wordpress just because of a calendar!

I am not sure how many visitors understand programming or web development but for those who really do you better step up in Ecmanaut' blog. Here, he tells you how to scope user scripts to HTML pages.

Our mentor and designer Ramani has not being writing steadily either but last weeks he asked for an update to his Neo Template. I've implemented withouth harsh and I hope everyone who's being using it already updated their Neo.

Phydeaux who takes the credit for our label cloud has released a post where he discuses the idea of Heading Image Uploading. No more really bad tutorials on how to get an image in your header, let Blogger do the work (ok I'm just hoping that means no more really bad tutorials, I suspect they will continue).

And Consumer Experience just jumped in to let us know that PNG and GIF uploads slow down your blog. She says: "If you upload a pic or photo to Blogger via the post editor, Blogger creates a thumbnail picture of your original, which is then displayed in your blog post." Awkward because what you've got in the New Blogger actually increases the file size of the thumbnail displayed on your blog, to bigger than the original file's size - and even bigger than the full size versions!

Blogger 'Next Blog' Help and Social Networks

I now there are plenty of tweaks to play with in the new Blogger. W. Richardson got stuck with it and he's asking for input. Many visitors and reader of this blog would be able to help him. Why you don't give him a try?

Two Spanish blogs had published interesting notes about what it means to menear, frisquear and diggear to express similar ideas about what is expected from Digg and the rest of socialnetworking applications such as Twitter and Virb. Do you know what's going on at Spanish Bloggers Union? (Spanish version).

I spent quite of time reading online but I can't let The Economist just past in front of mine. That's why today this post caught my eye. What does Web 2.0 mean? Paul Glazowski put it in a very simple way: Web 2.0 is just a simple progression of the Internet.

I kind of enjoy the field trips not only to geographical locations but for online weblogs as well, check out this field trip to Teacher's Blogs. Meet one of special correspondents in NPR, Larry Abramson and if you still want to keep digging in the education arena, please go and say hi from us to Alexander Russo and his best of the week educational blogs round up.

URGENT: Blogger Accounts Might Be Hacked!

Tonight, I went to visit UBH a Spanish Bloggers Network and what I've learned over there let myself paranoid. How can this happen a normal bloggers and plain citizens as our beloved Memori@(What you'll see is not her blog anymore) But the thing is her blog is not the only one been stolen and destroyed, the reported list of blogs so far is in UBH. Please, spread the word!

Someone who calls himself Jaime Ruiz who's publishing supposedly Pais Bizarro (bizarre country) is the person who admittedly commits this kind harsh activities.

Support Spanish bloggers and write about this issue in your blogs. Imagine being in their shoes after one, two or three years of blogging.

Blogger owe us some explanation. Many questions up front. You tell.

Update:
Thanks to all fellow bloggers who paid attention to our urgent call. Go Spanish Bloggers Union!

Update:
Many other fellow blogger had to suffer this kind of situation but Digital Inspiration points out what to do under those circunstances.

I Can't Custom my Domain with Blogger

Now I am trying hard. But until now it has being a pain in my *** to configure and start running my custom domain that I just bought from Google Apps. I am slow, I think. Even after reading many times the experiences of other bloggers and following instaBLOKE I still can't see the results. I need some help. Any volunteers?

Not everything is being bad, though. Yesterday I was talking with Professor James A. Sinclair because a autoCAD Course Training. He holds a PhD. but not is only his credentials what makes this gentleman a very distinguished person, is the tremendous potential he encourages in every one of his students. I really love his classes and if you are interested about more you should visit his own company.

Paul Stamatiou was giving out a few invites to try the beta version of Virb, the up and coming social network that I am also interested in. There you can share photos, music, videos, host your own blog, make friends, create groups and establish your very own personality. If you are interested and want to help this guys in the process of testing, leave a comment and I gladly send you an invite. Thanks Stammy!

Be happy and have a wonderful weekend.

You might lose your blog forever if you hosted it in Blogger!

I am sad after reading Hackosphere post about a mistake that presumably Blogger had made with one of our Recommended Blogs: Deniz Akay (aka Protesto). It was confused as a splog and now Blogger has been denying his iMessengr hosted at (http://web-messengers.blogspot.com). You can support him (he's nothing but a truly and hard working blogger) sending an email to support@blogger.com (also cc:denizDOTakayATgmailDOTcom)? If you wish, you could use the following text that Hackosphere sent:

Subject: iMessengr.com disabled as spam blog incorrectly
Hello,

I have been reading the blog iMessengr (http://web-messengers.blogspot.com) and recently the blog has been disabled because it was wrongly identified as a spam blog. I can assure you that it is not a spam blog and so, please re-enable it.

Or if you have a Blogger account try to use this form.

To avoid this kind of situations it is crucial you get a back up of your blog. You don't want to be in the Deniz's shoes, follow then my recommendation and probably you will be a little relieved, at least.

The 2000 Bloggers Project get mad InstaBLOKE and he has enough reasons to be angry. What about Z-List are they playing by the same rules? Let's move a little bit forward. What happened with Gmm 5.0. Are they going to be penalized? InstaBLOKE, I guess you have many more reasons to be angry with.

No everything needs to be sad this weekend. Why don't you take a walk and say hi from Science & Technology to Arpit Agarwal and please, do not forget to write to Blogger about Deniz issue.

Have a great weekend!

Wikipedia and Blogspot Policed

An outstanding post had been written by Wesley Fryer and it has to be with his own experiences about how Wikipedia is a citizen controlled database. With screenshots he explains the process to gain the right information and how in only 60 seconds a page can be reverted as correct as possible. The case is presented with a project research about Albert Einstein and if you are a parent or an educator you should go and read this interesting post.

For those who are not following Blogger policies, is time for revising those procedures. This is probably the first time when the Blogger team has censored selected posts from a blog hosted on Blogger rather than banning or deleting the entire blog. The case is presented by Labnol and has to be with CYFSWatch. Also take a look, as the Labnol's Author says, at what can you do when people copy your content on Blogger hosted blogs without permission.

Bloggeratto Is Coming Back, Countdown Begins!

This was a great surprise for me and for the person who recognize himself as a nocturnal animal. Yes, today while awake in the first hours of this day I've spoken with Avatar who is preparing a roll of ten projects for this year. Word of mouth can be found in Efendi's Blog who claims Avatar is doing something deadlier from what we know now.

Avatar says the latinamerican blogosphere is a disaster but has kind comments for Argentina, Chile and Mexico (As it is expected). He claims to be in the Web for about fourteen years now and to be the only Mexican blogger who's moving from English language to Spanish without being in the US. which is a surprise for most bloggers (himself included). Bloggeratto has also kind comments for two ecuadorean bloggers: Juan Javier Larrea y Alt1040.

Very soon you will know of his projects but be careful, you need to be in his 100 contacts list in order to receive the notification. Hurry up! If you don't want to miss anything then drop him an email. Well, he was telling me interesting facts: he's able to translate at least one hundred pages per day and can easily top one thousand words per minute! Such a good reader!

I've also asked him if Avatar uses a Mac. That almost got him down. Please, he said, do not forget who am I, I have a Zune, use XBox360, Windows Vista and a cell phone from that kind. So I've replied knowingly I was getting on his nerves. Take care easy man, you know Gates is very proud of you! Which of course changed his tone and mood.

Be prepared for the news then, our techie friend is alive and will bring powerful information, hacks and design with his new arrival. Stayed tuned!

Rounders Template

Well, everyone would love to make some money from their personal pastime. That's the case for Hackosphere. But our friend Denis (aka Protesto) just released a new template that includes most of the hotest hacks ever.

1. Google Translation for posts from Vivek.
2. Social Bookmark posts with one link using Socializer.
3. Peekaboo posts with summary in main page from Ramani
4. Peek-A-Boo view of posts in label/archive pages from Ramani
7. Labels as breadcrumb from Hoctro.
8. Label Feeds from PurpleMoggy.
9. Open Linklist links in a new window from Vivek.

'Related Post' for Blogger V3, usando solo los labels

Blogger: Videoblogging Is A Excellent Idea

Templates for Blogger (antes Beta)
